Oprah Winfrey’s massive net worth – from her talk show to her real estate empire

Viewers of The Bachelor were confused Monday after discovering the show’s start time was an hour later.
There’s only one thing that could move The Bachelor’s timeslot, and that’s Oprah Winfrey. The renowned TV personality hosted an hour-long special on ABC at 8 p.m. yesterday, meaning Bachelor fans had to wait an hour to watch Joey Graziadei choose between Daisy Kent, Kelsey Anderson and Rachel Nance for the final two.
Bachelor viewers were mad about the change, especially because the episode was the anticipated Women Tell All. They were eager to get more details about the drama that unfolded between Maria Georgas, Sydney Gordon and Lea Cayanan.
In her special, Oprah assembled health experts in front of a studio audience to explore popular weight loss pills like Ozempic, Mounjaro and Wegovy. While people took to X asking why Oprah took precedent over The Bachelor, the answer could have to do with her massive net worth.

Oprah has a net worth of $2.8 billion, according to Forbes. The 70-year-old is the 1,165 richest person in the world.
She led her hit talk show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, for 25 years, which she successfully transitioned into a business and media empire.
The show ran from 1986 to 2011. After it ended, she launched her own cable channel OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network). In 2020, she sold most of her stake in the network to parent Warner Bros. Discovery for shares in the company.
She also bought a 10 percent stake in Weight Watchers in 2015. She likely owns less than that now, however. She stepped back from the Weight Watchers board earlier this year after admitting to using Ozempic as a weight loss aid.

Oprah also owns a production company, Harpo Productions, which was behind films like The Color Purple, Beloved and Selma. Forbes said the reinvested profits from that and her show add up to an estimated $2 billion.
Some of her wealth comes from her real estate portfolio as well, with homes in California and over a dozen in Hawaii.
Oprah was born in Mississippi to a teen mother and raised in poverty. At one point in time, she was the world’s only Black billionaire.
